I think I'm going to skip the UPS this time and just go with a power conditioner. Narrowed it down to either the Panamax M8-AV-PRO or Furman PST-6. Suggestions? Thanks.
If you have a projector or HTPC, use a UPS to prevent the problems that come from being shut down improperly. The rest of a home theater or stereo doesn't need it.
If you really want to cover your tracks, install a surge protector at the breaker panel, to catch surges coming from outside and use smaller, local protection, for the electronics in other areas to catch the voltage spikes from appliances, light switches, etc.
I bought one of these, partially to keep all of the power cords organized and because it's over-voltage cutoff is 140VAC- I like to prevent over-voltage.

If you have equipment that requires tighter control over the line voltage, look at the Panamax MR4000-Pro, which shuts off the current when it reaches 134VAC +/- 2Volts.
Yeah, they're more expensive than the ones you linked to, but it sure beats losing equipment. Mine shut off the system one night and nothing else in the house seemed to have a problem, but it was also a very fast transient. Also, the power here has gone out/on/out/on/out on several occasions (so much for WE Energies being the best for reliability) and that's the kind of stuff my computers, music server and other "smart" equipment would hate.
