Here is my line of thought...I am moving to England and I have two HDTVs. One has component video input and the other has component and HDMI. I understand their NTSC tuners will not pickup and broadcast a PAL signal, BUT, if I have a European cable box (SKY Cable) and utilize the HD inputs, will this not bypas the NTSC tuner and display appropriately? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Nope!

Hiya. I can't really give you the details, but I am pretty sure you won't be able to display Sky on your telly. I lived in England for three years before I moved over to Germany, and there is more to displaying a PAL signal on a stateside set than just bypassing the tuner. I had a multisystem telly when I lived in the UK, so it wasnt much of a problem, but I ended up getting a RPTV (ntsc only) when I moved down to the continent. I had to actually get a signal translator to broadcast the signal in a way that was usable. Samsung makes a vcr (I can't recall the number) that does this pretty nicely. It will convert any video signal, whether it is PAL, NTSC or SECAM to any of the others. You do loose a little clarity when you use this piece, but it is about the only way that I have seen to cheaply convert the video signal. Are you by chance in the military? If so, you will be able to pick up a decent big screan (projector or plasma) that is multi-system once you get over to England. And the good things about the ms sets is that they are usually world-wide voltage, so you dont have to run them through a transformer.

Oh yea?

Really? Actually no, I didnt know that at all. I got this one sent to me with an email at work a few months ago and thought it looked kind of cool.
