Pairing BW 805s with ASW700

Dear all,

After doing a lot of comparing, I have reached the conclusions that I will use B&W 805s as front speakers for my new Denon 4306 based HT system.

I am now wondering whether I should invest in a sub also, and have been looking at the B&W offering too.

The 825 looks great, but at 3000 US$, it is more expensive than the 805s... and way above my budget. I am now looking at the ASW700.

Would it be stupid to associate 700 series sub to the 805s?

Thank you in advance,

Regards,
Bernard

Not at all, the two should compliment each other nicely.

Bernard,
I am sure you will be pleased with the 805's. I have not heard them, but many people like them. Most importantly, if you like them you can't ask for more than that.

I wonder if you are aware that the sub does not need to be the same manufacturer as the main speakers. You can pick the best manufacturer for speakers and the best for subs.

I have never heard the sub you mentioned, but you might be able to do better from subwoofer companies like SVS, Hsu Research, Velodyne, or the Axiom EP500 or 600 to name a few.

In the end, pick what you like the sound of.

Dear all,

Thanks a lot for your kind feedback.

I am aware that the sub doesn't have to be manufactured by the same brand as the mains, but most of the US forefront sub brands reviewed on this site appear not be be readily available in Japan where I currently live...

Subs are actually difficult to listen to in most shops here. They just don't connect them to amps outside full HT set ups that are typicalle mono-brand. The B&W being part of such a readily "listenable" set up in a shop that is convenient for me, I was wondering if some of you had had experience with it.

Thanks a lot.

Regards,
Bernard

Being in Japan, I'd say it would be a safe bet to go with the 700 if you've listened to it and you like it. The 805s are very nice speakers.
