I would like your insight on a system at a klipsch retailer on ebay for $2999. 2ea. rf82II towers, rf62II center, 2ea. rf 52II rear surrounds plus 2 ea. PL200 sub woofers plus a pioneer vsx1123 receiver. This looks like a smokin' deal to me as minus the receiver and one sub woofer they want 2599. I'm really not crazy about the receiver but 400 for that and the extra sub is hard to pass on. However if I like the reciever for its functionality can this receiver be bi amped?

It's an alright deal. I would much rather have some bookshelf speakers and a good subwoofer (or two) than some towers and a so-so subwoofer. I like Klipsch so that is the only reason why I say it is alright. The receiver will drive the speakers just fine. Here is something I think would be waaay better: a Hsu Hybrid 3 5.1 package plus an additional VTF3 sub for a dual sub setup. That would run you about 2.3k. Throw in this Denon receiver with its superior room correction equalization for another $650, and you have a better setup for the same price.

I think you can do much better than that, I am anti Klipsch since they burn a hole in my brain when they play for long periods of time..

DENON AVR-990 7.1ch Networking A/V Theater Surround Receiver | Accessories4less
dual vtf2's $1200 VTF-2 MK4 Subwoofer
then 3 -340se's for the fronts and a pair of 200se's for the rear comes to around $1200 CMT-340 SE Mini-Tower Loudspeaker
that comes to under $3000 and will make you much happier than that klipsch setup... I tried pretty much every speaker in the ascends price range and kept them because they are ar beyond what others offer for the money...

If you don't like the ascend emps will also offer a much better value.. http://emptek.com/theater_build_imp_black.php

Thank You Shady J. I love this forum. I was actually looking for 3k for speakers and sub and looking at emotive on another investment. I am 57 and grew up with vintage 70's equipment mostly mid level after I got educated(used to think it was hi end best). And I own quite a bit of this equipment Paid 5k during my mid life crises/then divorce) that I thought the new stuff was only for the masses and crap. However a little more educated now I realize that I am being ignorant. I loved the looks and bargain of that Klipsch system. However, My pride is my Marantz(restored) 2325 and ( I know now that this is not a brand speaker that is even mentioned on this site) Cerwin Vega S-2's. These S2's were around $4K in late 70's and only 36 pair sold due to low sales due to other more recognizeable brands. So your answer is on the money as you have the obvious more informed experience as I know even from the 70's that you did not buy all the same brand to fulfill the best. Due to that history and ignorant of what is offered today as the new higher end AV's which look very confusing to set up is why Im looking at emotive not just for the best bang in power supply for the buck but looks simple and straight forward for me(xp5 and the 7.1 umc,the old guy.Your speaker suggested speaker system is definatley awesome in Quality and reviews. Still stuck on my 70's ignorance that bigger is better and more is merrier! LOL!

Actually I agree bigger can be better with regard to speakers (although not always). Like is often said in audio, there is no replacement for displacement. The system I suggested is quite a bit larger than the Klipsch system anyway, as far as cubic feet go. The setup Imcloud recommended would be great as well, and also take up more space, lol. The nice thing about the Klipsch system is that it is very easy to drive to crazy loud levels even with a modest amp, you do not need a separate amplifier for them at all, or the Ascend or Hsu speakers either for that matter. Anyway, modern receivers are no more difficult to setup than anything Emotiva has available, and they aren't that much different from your Marantz either. They have a lot of features, but you don't have to use them.
