I am going to try to make some sound treatments but could not find the 700 series insulation at my local Home Depot. Anyone know of another place to look for this kind of item?

Thanks

www.spi-co.com

Owens Corning has said repeatedly that they WILL NOT SHIP 700 series to anything but HVAC companies. I would love to know their rationale, but I don't.

That does seem odd. Thanks for the link!

Open up the phone book. Contact industrial/commercial heating/cooling companies and/or commercial/industrial insulation companies. They should usually sell materials to you directly. Example pricing: a local(to me) commercial/industrial insulation company sells 705 ASJ for $113 for quantity of 6, of 2" x 24" x 48".

SPI generally sells to the public at reasonable rates. That's where I purchased when I built mine.

Bryan at Sensible Sound Solutions sells 700 series fiberglass in small lots, not sure if he's as competitive as SPI, but he's quick and helpful. Also sells acoustical cotton and finished/covered product using GoM fabric.

Instead of GoM cloth, I went to Acoustech for fabric in order to do some "nostalgic" stuff with some of the treatments (they sell grill cloth similar to that used on concert amps). With the fabric on the face of my corner traps an appropriate frame and Marshall logos up top, I'm hoping it might add a little character for air guitar sessions with my aging rock and roll buddies.

I try to be as competitive as possible. While I don't buy in the quantities that SPI does, I think my prices are reasonable (and I don't mark up my shipping like they do either to compensate and look good on price searches).

As some of the others in this business will tell you, there's more than just price. If you want to speak to someone on how to lay out a room, what treatments are requires, how to balance things, etc. - try that at SPI.

Call Ethan, Joel, Glenn, or myself and you'll get way more in value for the advice you get than what you'll save by just buying from a warehouse.

Bryan,

Indeed. This is a big advantage of buying from someone who really knows what they're doing like you. Anyone can sell an "acoustic panel," but not everyone can answer all the inevitable related questions.

OC won't sell the 700 series for non-HVAC applications because they now own several acoustical panel companies....

My bad, I should have mentioned Ethan (and perhaps a couple of others I seem to lurk around in various forums), along with Bryan. Ethan also gives a boatload of good advice on the net and has generously posted DIY solutions that are simple and the real deal for many of us.
