Outputing my Laptop to my Plasma

I have a Pioneer 42" Plasma screen(PDP-SX4280D), and a Dell XPS M1330 Laptop, with Windows Vista Ultimate.

The Dell has an HDMI out.

The Pioneer has (3) HDMI in's.

I bought an HDMI cable today.

Connected the 2 together. (In to Input 4 on the Pioneer)
Nothing happend

Tried to scan the Pioneer Manual. Went to HDMI Options and set it for PC input.

(Many of the Options weren't allowing me to change them, but it did seem to be 'enabled')

Still nothing on the tv.

I was expecting Vista to pop up and ask me about a new external monitor, but it didn't.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

Did you change your the input on the TV to Input 4? There might be a setting within your laptop to allow it as well.

If your laptop has a function button for display switching try pressing that. Otherwise, open the display settings in the Control Panel and you should find options for enabling a second monitor. It generally doesn't happen automatically.

Yes if you have a Dell it should be Function F8 to toggle between external output on/off.

Also try right clicking on the desktop, go to personalize. Then go to Display settings. Then click on the monitor that is grayed out, and choose "Extend the desktop onto this monitor".

If that does work then you may have an HDMI handshake issue.

Many thanks for all your replies/

Well, when I got up this morning and tried it again - it worked. Vista did just pop up automactically having detected a new screen.

The only thing I can think that I did different is that the TV was off when I connected it to my laptop. Then, when I turned it on, the pc's output appeared.

My only remaining issue is that no sound came out through the tv. I thought HDMI was both video & audio, but this didn't happen.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

Just wondering if you resolved the sound issue.

Most if not all PC HDMI outputs do not include sound. You would have to connect a seperate cable to get audio throughput.
