Many of you probably don't know of a ground breaking band that developed in the 70's named the Outlaws. They, along with the Eagles presented some of the first country rock to reach a good deal of success. The Eagles continued on to great achievements, as we all know. Meanwhile, the Outlaws suffered many deaths and band member breakups. But the music was always superb.

After years of playing with Lynyrd Skynyrd, the driving force behind the Outlaws, Hughie Thomasson, reformed the Outlaws and began touring last year. A CD and DVD were soon forthcoming. But it likely will not be. Hughie Thomasson, one of Fender Guitars Living Legends, a huge monster of a guitar player, passed away last night from an apparent heart attack. He was 55 years old. We lose another good one.

Green Grass and High Tides forever.
Yes. Hughie wrote some wonderful songs. This was my favorite band. Sadness.

"Green grass and high tides forever
Castles of stone, souls and glory
Lost faces say we adore you
As kings and queens bow and play for you

Those who don't believe me
Find your souls and set them free
Those who do, believe and love
As time will be your key
Time and time again I've thanked them
For a piece of mind
They helped me find myself
Amongst the music and the rhyme
That enchants you there"

Some of the best guitar pickin' EVER came from the Outlaws.
Southern boys from Tampa, FL, too.

He's now one of the "Ghost Riders In The Sky" :(

55?! Wow, that is really young... I've never heard any of their music, but that is still shocking.

That is a real shame. Fifty five, is just too young to go.
Back in the 70's I saw The Outlaws more than any other live band; and
that still holds true today.
They were my favorite.
