Outlaw sub dead...suggestions?

After about 10 years of faithful service, my Outlaw Audio LFM-1 subwoofer is dead. This week, I noticed that my bass was puny, then found the green power LED not on. I have verified that there is power going to the sub, a signal coming from the receiver to the sub, and that the fuse is not blown and is installed properly.

Mysteriously, my friend's LFM-1, which he bought at the same time that I bought mine, died this week too!

The sub gave me great performance in my small (15 x 15) room. Is it worth trying to get repaired?

If I have to get a new one, I am thinking about one that has the ability to change the parameters by remote (I sometimes want something different for video than I do for music). Any suggestions for good values in a small room sub like that?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Budget?

If you have a tablet or smartphone the ELAC subwoofers have the ability to make adjustments from the app. The only question is if they fit into your budget.

Have you talked to Outlaw? Perhaps the sub is repairable for less money than a new sub.

Most likely a dead amp and the driver is fine from your description. You can buy another plate amp; you might check with Outlaw but something from parts-express.com might do just fine. You can also use an external power amp like a pro-amp (iNuke Behringer dsp series perhaps). Or buy a new sub....

ps Amp repair is another option if you can find someone willing....that's getting harder all the time.

Called Outlaw today...nice folks. If I send the plate to them, they will repair for 70 bucks plus shipping. I will probably pursue this to save the sub...but after 10 years is it time to upgrade to their Ultra X12 ($639) or Hsu's VTF-3?

For 70 bucks it's well worth repairing even if you intend to sell it on Craigslist and upgrade.

Sent from my LG-VS980 using Forum Fiend OSP v1.3.3.

Another option is to get a passive sub and use your own amp.
