I'm looking for a new subwoofer. My limit is at $300. From reading through these forums a bit I have seen a lot about the HSU but not much on the Outlaw. I know Hsu helped design the Outlaw but that's it. The site says the Outlaw's goes down to 27 Hz while the HSU goes to 32Hz. I'm using this for 50% Music / 50% Movies. My room's about 14' X 10'. I have an Onkyo TX-SR502 Receiver. Any help or other recomendations greatly appreciated.

The STF-1 is tuned to 32Hz, it will go deeper then that. Jaxvon has one and said he got output to 25Hz in his room.

They are basically the same subwoofer. Both designed by Dr.Hsu. 6 of one, half a dozen of another. Take your pick.

Thanks a lot for the response, that's pretty much what I assumed the answer would be, just wanted to hear it from someone else. The Hsu does have a better warranty (7yrs rather than 3yrs) which is swaying me towards it. Of course its out of stock right now but I can wait.

Thanks again

Both subs are likely to have usable bass lower than the spec'd number. But the 28Hz and 32Hz numbers are the anechoic numbers (I assume) so the two are not identical, as also indicated by the weight difference. In the same room, where both subs have room reinforcement, I would expect the LFM-2 to provide a few more Hz lower in usable bass than the Hsu, assuming the high-pass filters on both are identical.

And the amount of room reinforcement can vary greatly depending on the room and placement.

Called up Hsu today, got a B-Stock STF-2 for $347.00, a little out of the $300 price range but supposedly the STF-1 is going to be out of stock until late February. Also the Outlaw is around $40 for shipping (making it about the same price). Thanks for the help guys.

Report back with your findings. Having that info helps us recommend prodcuts for people :)

I received the B-Stock STF-2 yesterday. To start it looks perfect, no blemishes at all. It is absolutely enormous. My old sub was from this $100 pioneer speaker set (what a waste of money), the HSU is about 5 times the size. Now, my receiver is being fixed (For the past two weeks  ) But I tested it out for a very short time on my dad's system. From what I could tell it sounded great. It filled my den very nicely. Considering that it's going in my room, which is much smaller than the den, I think it will be a perfect fit. I should get the receiver back by next Wednesday. As soon as I test out the sub I will definitely follow up. Just a warning, the one thing about getting a B-Stock sub from HSU that kind of bothered me was that they don't offer the 30 day trial period, I guess it's something you have to live with when paying 20% less.
