So I am looking for a sub to help my 6Ts out on the low notes. I've been looking for good used subs to maximize my budget, which I would like to keep under $500. My specs are as follows:

- Receiver: Pioneer Elite VSX-52
- Speakers: Aperion 6T and 5C
- Space: Approximately 1500cuft, However, I since we often watch movies while our toddler sleeps, bigger is not necessarily better.
- Use: 90% TV and Movies, music performance is important to me though on the rare occasion I get to crank it up.
- WAF: This is an issue. If they can match the gloss black of my speakers it would go a long ways. Not being big physically is ideal as well, so sealed would probably work better.
I found the Outlaw and SVS used, and could probably get either for around $400 all in, or get the STF-2 new. What do you guys think? Since I have a curious toddler, I was thinking that sealed or down firing ported would be ideal.

I've also toyed around with one of the DIY kits. While I suck at finishing a cabinet, I'm pretty handy otherwise.

What do you guys think?

For the rare times you get to crank it, I'd go with the Outlaw. Also, there's a cat named @sandbagger who had some beautifully finished cabinets in Chicago he was threatening to turn into kindling if he wasn't able to sell them this past summer. He's probably unloaded them by now, but I'm tagging him just in case he has them and is paying attention. :\

If you have the tools, time and construction experience DIY is the best option for a subwoofer, but 400 is a steep price point for a DIY option unless you really know how to comb the used market in your area.

What kits would you recommend? Many that i see use 15-18" woofers to get max output. Thats just not what im looking for. If i did diy, i would like one with a plate amp, rather than an external amplifier.
