Anyone here have any experience with the Outlaw 990 pre/pro when using the phono inputs or the built-in tuner?

Just as a follow-up, the 990 would replace an Adcom GFP-565 preamp (which has a superb MM phono section) and an old but high quality Kenwood KT-7500 analog tuner for the phono and tuner functions.

If you end up going ahead with the 990, please let us know if you hear any improvement over the 565 in two channel playback including phono. I have no experience with the 990 but I have a 565.

990 tuner -- Thumbs Down

I don't really care much for the 990 tuner. It sounds fine with decent sensitivity, but the presets are funky and I never really did bother to figure them out. Also, for Z2 operation the tuner is really kludgy. You can't switch to the tuner input and hear any audio unless you have it selected before Z2 is powered on. So, if you are listening to a CD and want the radio in Z2 --- select the tuner and get silence, then turn off Z2, then turn Z2 back on to get any sound.

The sound is fine... But it's just to clunky when they can do this type of thing just fine in a $50 car stereo from K-Mart.

Don't know about the phone stage.
