O.K. So this is my first post with pictures so take it easy on me. What we have here is the Harman Kardon avr-634 rated at 75wpc. the Outlaw 1070 rated at 65wpc. and in the one picture there is also a Pioneer vsx-412 rated at 100wpc.. Whats wrong with that picture?

Sorry about the first pic. it's the front of the h/k

2nd pic the front of the outlaw.

3rd pic the back of the outlaw

4th pic the back of the h/k

Last pic the inside of the h/k, outlaw and on the right the Pioneer

By the way if anyone knows how to make the pics bigger, have at it.

How does the Outlaw sound? And how's the power?
The Outlaw sounds great, I thought the H/K was good [and it is] but the Outlaw seems to have a little more punch especially in the mid bass area.

I was able to get consistent 100+db at about 15ft.[klipsch rcw-5 in-wall] the h/k went a little lounder but the outlaw just seems better. It's hard to describe but if you've ever compared two similar receivers, one of them usually just has that something extra, and thats what the outlaw has.

For 65wpc I think it could compete very easily with most others that claim 100 or 110wpc.

droeses58,

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the design of the user interface and whether you consider it easy to use. Are the setup menus easy to get to (and can you also do setup from the front panel), any goofy arrangements like needing to go to the menus rather than a direct button on the front panel or remote to invoke simple things like Midnight Mode, that kind of thing.

One thing I've always liked about my Onkyo receivers is that IMO they do a good job of making the simple things simple to access and even the complex things relatively simple too. I would strong consider the Outlaw instead of another Onkyo if it can measure up in the UI department.

MDS,

You may want to look around on other forums for some of your questions, just for the simple fact I've only had it a few days and would like to give it a thurough going over before I can give any elaborate answers. I'll try to answer some of what I do know.

1. It so far out performs any receiver I've owned, sound wise [pioneer, denon, h/k and Sony ]

2. It does not have an auto set-up feature which are usually [not always] not very accurate anyways. It does have internal test tones that I used with my rat shack spl meter and had it set-up very quickly.

3. It has exstensive bass managment for front, surround, center and surround back each can be set individually from one another.[40Hz-200Hz?]

4. Yes I believe the midnight mode is accessible from the remote. As well as switching from cinema, movie and other surround modes. It even has a bypass mode for stereo as well as seperate configuerations for dvd-A and sacd.

I will try and give more info as requested it just might take me some time to get around to all of it.

Again this 65wpc is unreal, at first I didn't think it was that loud but after turning on the spl meter and seeing it consistenly jump from 100db to around 105-6,7db [@ about 15ft ] I came to realize it's just total clean output. If you can find a better picture of the above, or at least in-large them just look at the size of the [oh whats that called] the power thingy and you'll know how 65 watts can sound so good.

Oh yea before I forget it weighs, I believe 41 pounds so it fits Buckeye's requirment :) JK Buck

Thanks, that's a good start. No pressure, after you've lived with it for awhile feel free to post your impressions if you like. I am in no hurry. I have postponed my upgradeitis until after I finish furnishing the house I bought or my birthday - whichever comes first.

It's been awhile so I thought I would check in and see if you (or any 1070 owners) have any further thoughts after living with the unit for a few months.
