Hi all

We've just moved into a house that was pre-wired for a pair of outdoor speakers. Great. Now we want to add an outdoor TV. TV install guy says running HDMI back to the amp in the living is going to be messy. That's OK as we'll just use a FireTV/Chromecast stick or similar for the content we want which will generally be movies for the kids. Question is - what's the best way to get audio onto those outdoor speakers from the TV or stick? I looked at transmitters/receivers but a decent solution will cost around $200. Is there any other solution where you can connect the TV or a stick and get an audio stream wirelessly to the amp (which supports wi-fi & bluetooth) then onto the outdoor speakers without spending $200?

If you can get a cable pulled then do a cat6 cable (or two of them just in case) and you can use a hdmi over cat6 converter.

You can get wireless audio transmitters for a bit less but they are not cheap

But they normally take analog stereo inout and your tv probably only has optical audio output which would need another converter! Keeping all these converters and adapters outside and out of the weather may be difficult. Could look into getting a really long optical toslink cable if you were able to get it from inside to outside. They don't like getting bent or squished but at least water won't effect them.

Interesting idea but be warned that this may cause audio delay and lip sync issues as there is nothing to keep them in time.
True. It's possible even likely, but it fits his budget. Also wireless transmitters are not immune to same issue

Bluetooth isn't good for long-range- how far from the system will you be mounting the TV? Also, a regular TV isn't likely to be bright enough.

Many AV receivers have a way to correct lip synch problems, but it only goes so far. If you need more than what it can do, Hall Research makes audio delay units that can be adjusted in 1mS increments.
