How much of a difference is there between a outdoor speaker and a non outdoor speaker? different surround on the cone? I am going to place a pair of speakers for entertainment use on the weather side of my house... I live about 2 or 3 miles from the ocean in oregon? The speakers will probably be in the celing/cantalever, beings how they will be the most protected here. Will any speaker be able to take this abuse?

Humidity will take it's toll on them even though they appear to be "protected" from the elements. We have some Niles outdoor speakers that we only bring in during the winter and they have performed well for 4+ years now.

Anybody have some reccomendations on some speakers that last well outdoors, or some to stay away from? I was thinking about just putting a cheaper pair outside.

I haven't heard these, but they come from a well-recommended company and the price is right. They look marine-sturdy!

I realize that Oregon is a large state, but there aren't many of us. Where on the coast are you? There are two of us on AH who live in Lincoln City!! :D :D

I live on the Newport Bay... so no ocean to worry about (wouldn't even try, that sand destroys everything) it's about 20 miles south of Lincoln City. Central Oregon coast. Keiko's second home.
