Trying to decide if I want to go for basic set up with 2 polk atrium 6 speakers mounted to my shed by the pool, or do the paradigm rock speakers around the pool. The rock speakers might take me out of my price range. I like the definitive aw650 to. Both paradigm rock and def are around same price. The polks may not sound as nice but cheaper and more durable. Not sure about the Bluetooth wireless systems??? Any input from you guys would be awesome. All speakers will face the elements of weather until I make or get covers.

Without getting into the sound system itself, be sure to use a GFCI power receptacle for any equipment (including loudspeakers) that may be near the pool.

I think the question depends on the size of your space. Sound outdoors really doesn't get the "benefits" of amplification through bouncing off room boundaries like in a room. It tends to decrease in volume quickly, especially in lower frequencies.

If your area is small and your shed is ideally located, I would choose the 2 speakers. If you have a larger area then it might be beneficial to have sound sources in multiple locations.

To me, unless you have really ideal sitting arrangement and will be focusing on the speakers, not just using them as background or atmosphere, it might not be worth the nicer speakers. Due to the difficulties of the outdoor environment (which can make any speaker sound poor), I personally struggle with spending to upgrade outdoor sound.

Check out http://www.ticcorp.com/. Really reasonably priced and all the traditional style speakers I have heard from them are perfectly acceptable. Decent sound, no glaring faults that draw attention, reasonable price.

I will pile on nm2285's recommendation. I have been using two sets of TIC Outdoor patio speakers (equivalent to the ASP120 and ASP60 available today) on a west facing porch and an East facing deck. The porch speakers are well protected from both direct sun or rain (but not SC humidity). The deck speakers are less well protected and exposed to morning sun and a bit of rain (when windy). Both have been inplace for ~10 years and humming along nicely.
