I sold my house in August of 2010 and the new owner cut me a check to keep the HT system that was in the house. This was my first HT. It was a great set up and we enjoyed it very much.

After the new house was built and we moved in September 2010, I started working on a plan for my new HT...dedicated this time, but man, is there ever alot of research to do, to make sure that you do it right...or atleast the best you can.

The room is in the basement, 13'6" x 25' x 7'10" ceilings. I put up the first wall, using 2x6 plates and staggering the 2x4 studs at 24" for sound proofing. The idea is to put the " safe and sound insulation" between the studs, cover it with Sonopan on each side and then using 1/2" drywall on each side. This will be duplicated for the ceiling except for the staggering of the studs. I will use the insullation between the joyces, put the Sonopan, install the strapping then put the drywall up. I am hoping to reach an STC rating of high 50's.

I have already ran my flexible conduit for each of my speakers and also a 2" flexible pipe for the projector. All components are going to be behind a " false" wall where the 106" screen is going to be.

The electrician is coming in after Xmas to do the electrical, with dedicated circuits for the HT.

Basically that is where I am right now and will keep you guys posted if people have any interest.

Please feel free to ask me any questions or comments, ideas, suggestions onhow to improve my HT.

Thx guys

Mad

I'd like to hear how this works out. For my retirement home I want to have a totally sound proof listening room.

Wow, I have not been here for a very long time....I never finished my theater room as I got transferred to a norther posting for 3 years, I was only in my new house for 6 months....

I presently live in a temporary house but will soon return to civilisation and be able to buy new house and start a home theater project again and hopefully not get shipped out.

with all the new advanced made with the projectors, I am leaning on getting one instead of the plasmas...but damm, they are getting bigger and chealer every day...you can not buy 80" and a pretty good price...hgetting harder to make a good decision...

Anyhow, just thought i would drop in..after oh...1 year or so.

Hey Max,
If you are still thinking of doing a dedicated room then I would seriously consider a projector and an acoustically transparent screen. I would also go as big as you can with the screen and place the LCR's behind the screen. Much cleaner look and that means you can go with some industrial looking speakers high efficiency speakers with no negative esthetic issues.
