Osd Issue On Denon 3805

Hi folks,

I do have a question regarding to the OSD on the 3805.
I've changed my TV set recently (from an old 34" CRT to a 42" LCD HDTV) and something weird is happening now, regarding to the OSD:

the VOLUME CONTROL does not appear anymore (it did before).

I'm running component cables (from dvd to receiver to tv) + S-video from monitor out (from AVR) to TV input, in order to get the OSD running (as before). The only difference now is that I've set my DVD on PROGRESSIVE SCAN and everything shows up normally (as before), EXCEPT the volume control. Weird, isn't??

Could you guys fire up some comments on that, please?

Cheers / Avliner.

that's the way it's suppsoed to work

I bet you didn't have a component video input on your old CRT, right? I have a similar setup. When the LCD TV is getting a progressive scan signal from the 3805 via component cables, the on-screen display from the 3805 doesn't appear onscreen. However, if you go into the 3805's setup menu, you will get the onscreen menus that you got on your old TV set. I can't explain why this happens, but...it happens.

You may find the answer on page 47-48 of the manual. Go to your 3805's 'System Setup Menu' then 'Option Setup' then 'On Screen Display'.
5-6 Setting the On Screen Display (OSD)
• Use this to turn the on-screen display (messages other than the menu screens) on or off.
• Sets the on-screen display’s display mode.
Mode 1: Prevents flickering of the on-screen display when there is no video signal.
Mode 2: Flickering is not prevented.
Use this mode if the on-screen display does not appear in the mode 1, as may happen according to the TV being used.
cheers:)

Wrong! I did use compenent video on my old CRT, but never used the Progressive Scan mode though, as the old TV set was not Progressive Scan capable.

I`m out all week long, so by the weekend I`ll have a look at the manual to cross-check data on what MACCA is saying.

I will revert with results asap.

Thanks / Cheers / Avliner.
