I have been reading alot about the magnepan mmg and mmg-c. Today I took a chance and ordered them they said about 2 weeks before delivery. I also have a 60 day in home trial and if I like them and want a bigger pair in a tear I can trade them in for full value. I'm very excited this is my first pair of highend speakers and I'm sure better than the Sony ssf 5000 I have now.

I've always been curious as to how the flay surface speakers sound but I've never had the opportunity to listen.

Let us know your impression when they arrive!

Congrats!!

I used to own a pair of MMG W and MMG C

Just make sure you have an a/v receiver that can handle the ohm's that these maggies require or you may cut yourself short .

Enjoy and have fun!!

I would be interested to know how you think the Magnepan MMGs sound compared to other speakers.

I talked to Magnepan today & will probably order the mmg-w's & mmg-c within the next 2 weeks. If i go crazy over them, then i plan to use the mmg-w's for the rears & get a pair of mmg's for the front.
We'll see if my Onkyo SR608 can handle 'em. If not, then i'll get the SR808 or a Marantz something & go from there...

Congrats. :).

If your Onkyo can't handle it, get something like a Yamaha RX-V665 combined with new Emotiva UPA-5 or UPA-7 depending iif you want to g 5.1 or 7.1 . That suggestion precludes going with 3D. Use the Yamaha as a pre/pro. You'll get far better performance that way then with the Onkyo SR808.

I've been really happy with all the Onkyo products i've had over the years, but my 608 doesn't have pre-outs so i can't just add a multi-channel amp. The 808's are going for pretty discounted prices & i do like getting the 135W per channel option before i buy a separate amp - we'll just see how it goes with the maggies first...

camaro01 - please post some pics of your new set-up when you get 'em!!!

I did the MMG route in early 2000. although relatively small, they do like clean power. I used a NAD 214 (80 wpc) abd they did fine, although I needed a sub to satisy my bass cravings.

A few months later I traded up to the 1.6's and suddenly, that li'l NAD didn't have what it took. They sucked it dry!!! I went to a Rotel RB-991 (200 wpc/8 ohms, 300 @ 4) and they opened up. Didn't even need a sub for music.

Placement can be critical for the best they can offer. This goes for all Maggies.

I would have seriously considered those had I not already ordered 2 new SVS systems (a 7.1 and 5.1 system). Hope you enjoy the heck out of those new "Maggies".

Got the MMG's this week & so far so good. I'm running a Sony SSCNX-70ED between them as a center with Sony SSX-30ED's as surrounds off my Onkyo 608. I have to push the Onkyo into the MMG's a bit more than the Sonys, but my small living room doesn't need much power to fill with sound.
Alot more breaking in needs to be done along with some tweeking on the placement of the MMG's, but i really like them & seriously think i won't be sending them back.
My Adire Audio Rava is handling the sub duties @80hz x-over with no preceived miss-match here, but i'm very interested in the Phase Technology FL-8 or FL-10 as a new sub up-grade.
I'm very surprised on how good the Sony center speaker blended in with the MMG's and will put off buying the MMGW-C center untill they're broken in.
I'll try and post some pics of my very unique mounting stands since these will never be on the floor.
