I have been looking at a small speaker co. called ORB audio. http://www.orbaudio.com I was wondering if any of you had heard of them or knew anything about their products. I was wanting to spend around 1,000 on speakers and thought ORB looked good. I am running an Onkyo 601 and have cheap speakers at the moment. I plan on upgrading my sub and LCR speakers at this time. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Cory

Great speakers & great service. The clarity of the satellites and deep, tight bass of the sub is definitely unmatched in this price range. They sound like much bigger, and larger, speakers. 30 day home trial, too.

We have not heard them yet. I'd like to do a review and see how they compare with other satellites I've heard.

They use a 3" full-range driver with no crossover so take that into consideration. Bass management will most likely have to be set around 120-140Hz, which is a bit higher than I'd like, but much lower than Bose systems so your sub won't be as directional. This crossover point is typical for satellites like this.

As Mod1 is 8-ohms, and Mod2 is 4-ohms I would conclude that they basically just give you two speakers and wire them in parralel with whatever amp/receiver you use.

There are currently no professional reviews of these speakers so we'd welcome them, but have a bit much on our plate right now to contact them just yet.

I've had an Orb system for about a year. They really are as good as people are saying...Besides the whole direct business model and the more affordable pricing, I think the things that set them apart are the clarity/imaging of the satellites, and the quality of the subwoofer. Most systems in this price range usually have a boomy, big sub, and the sub that come with their systems is just the opposite. The sound of the sub and sats is extremely well integrated, too, and their is none of the boom and sizzle you find with other systems. I beleive the sub/sats can be crossed over anywhere from 80hz to 160hz, too, so the satellites play fairly low freqencies for small speakers. Bottom line is that the system looks and sounds fantastic, and pretty much everyone that comes to my house comments on the speakers. Even my grandmother! I'd love to see what you guys think if you ever get a chance to review them.

I don't know anything about them. But just a quick look at the site gave me a '70s flashback and a sudden urge to put on some white polyester.... :D

Let me know what you find out

I have been researching the Orbs for a while now and I have yet to find a negative remark. I think the price is comperable to what you will find on the market (still above what i am looking to spend). I will most likely break down a get them.

I've also researched everything I could find about the Orb Audio speakers and I too have not been able to find a single negative comment. So I ordered a set, three Mod2's for front L, R & center. (have PSB inwalls ceiling mounted for surrounds) I didn't order a subwoofer since I already have one, but they sent me one by mistake, and didn't charge me for it. I didn't want to take advantage of them so I called them and notified them about the mistake. There were very nice, and the guy said to keep it for a while and listen to it, and if I liked it better than my old sub they would give me a nice discount on it.

By happy circumstance, I had enough reward points on my Amex card to get a free Denon 2805 receiver, which has arrived at my house but I have not been able due to work commitments to hook up everything and see how they sound. When I finally get everything done I'll post my impressions. (I'm far from an audiophile, but do like good equipment)
