Orb 8" or STF-1 HSU or Triska

Hi All,
This is my first post here, but I've read lots of interesting posts. I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place to be asking this question. And, sorry no links because I guess that's not allowed until the 5th post.

I've been thinking about the Orb 2.1 speaker system for my living room to replace the small set of Sony bookshelf speakers I currently use (SS-MB100H),

As of right now, I only listen to music, but I will eventually want to use it for HT. I should specify that I most definately don't want to rock the house (condo), I just want to fill in some low freqs.

Basically, I spoke with an Orb rep. and he claimed their 8" woofer, which adds $310, is better then anything available for less then ~$700. So, I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with their woofer and if so how do you think it would compare to the STF-1 HSU, which I've seen recommended a lot, and how might it compare to a DIY project like the Triska from PartsExpress.

Also, how do you think the Triska would compare to the STF-1? Am I really going to be able to build something superior to what I can get off the shelf?

Thanks in advance for any opinions you are willing to share!

Never heard the Orb sub, but I highly doubt their 8" sub is better than the rest of the internet direct company offerings. Also take a look at the X-sub from www.av123.com for $200, comparable to the STF-1.

I have the HSU sub currently in my Home Theater and the reason why I had it was the small apt. I was living in at the time. Now that I am in a house, the sub does a good job, but is no where near what a large woofer sub would do in a HT setup. But the 8" driver is very nice with music and does an excellenet job with drums and bass lines in music. But with HT I need a little more power. My room is 20ft long and 12ft wide and has 8ft ceilings, so its a large room. But if I had a music only system the HSU. If I still lived in a small home or apt, the HSU, now in the home, I will be looking for something else soon. Either a bigger HSU or a SVS cylinder sub.
