"Optimizer" Indicator always on???

I ran YPAO in my new home theatre room last night for the first time. The red "OPTIMIZER" indicator is on constantly now. The manual mentiones that it stays on when you do not make any manual changes to the YPAO auto settings.

But, I did make a couple changes (changed my rear surrounds from large to small).

Should this light stay on? If not, how do you turn it off?

Thanks!

it stays on when you make a change. Normal for the optomizer light to be on. It lets you know the unit has been optomized. Reset the machine and it will turn off. otherwise it will continue to be lit.

When I mentioned reset, I may have been to general. Resetting the receiver will return the settings to factory default. You don't want to do this unless you have to. I too was concerned with the optimizer light on and called Yamaha directly to ask. If you make any changes with the ypao settings the light will remain on. Too bad you can't turn the entire display off during movies. The only time I can do this is with pure direct.

I have a 2500 and if I make a change to the peq setting of any given channel and then save that setting...the YPAO indicator will not be displayed on front of unit. Not sure what you mean by 'optomizer' unless that is what the 2400's displayed rather than 'YPAO' on the 2500 and same year models.

Can you lower or dim display panel brightness?

Yes I can only dim the display, but I cannot turn it completely off.
As for my other equipment denon 3910 universal and my panamax conditioner, the displays can be turned off entirely.

The 2400 says "OPTIMIZER" instead of "YPAO".

I'm going to try resetting the equilizer settings back to zero to see if the light goes out.

As far as dimming goes, the 2400 does allow you to dim the front display considerably, but it is never completely off.

Try adjusting the peq setting by just one position. I mean a little more or less gain on a single band/freq and then save this new setting. My 2500 reveals this as a 'custom' setting in it's settings menu which you can view via the GUI. A 'custom' setting does not display the red YPAO on front panel window. Hope this works for ya'.

The optimizer display is NORMAL. It is a visual indication letting you know the system is calibrated for your room and speakers. The only way to turn it off is to do a system reset or return the system to the default settings manually.

This information is quoted directly from Yamaha tech. support.

Actually if you go into manual setup and change ONE thing, the light will go off.

Did YPAO get your speaker distance correct?

If you leave all settings as YPAO found them, the light stays on. The light is just saying "All is well".

Change your sub distance by 10cm - the light will go off.

Yes changing a setting to the equalizer does turn the light off, however I changed a setting for the worse and had to run YPAO over again to correct the problem.

So for the light it can stay on.

On the 2400, I went in and changed a few settings manually. The indicator is still lit.

How do you change the PEQ settings? When I enter manual mode, I can make changes in the GEQ settings, but if I highlight PEQ, nothing comes up.

Anyway, It really doesn't matter. I was originally concerned that the optimizer indicator was on because of a problem. If it is on because everything is OK, then let it stay on.
