Optical or Glass Optical???

Hello again - thanks to you guys saving me money on not buying Monster Cable I am looking at redoing some of my existing cable. What is the difference in optical and glass optical? THANKS!!!

Yeah, someone was spamming parts Express links awhile ago. If you need to post them, remove the "s" after "part". As far as the difference, the glass fiber uses glass instead of plastic to transmit the light. Glass fiber is generally considered better, but for a short run, it won't make a bit of difference. Just get the normal one.

You only need the glass for long runs because the plastic has greater losses. 3 feet isn't going to be a problem.

So is 12ft considered a long run?

12 feet isn't a problem. You can even go with Parts Express part # 180-944 for $4.94 (plus shipping). It is thinner than most, so it won't impress people who want something thick to make up for some physical shortcoming, but it works very well.

With all optical cables, you should be careful not to kink it.

I just order all new cabling from Parts Express. I went with 6 foot optical cables since I wasn't 100% sure 3 ft was enough.
