Optical cable the best choice for PS3

Whould I be better off with an optical on my PS3? I can't go HDMI becuase my reciever is a year or 2 too old to have HDMI inputs.

Will optical acutally give better audio performance that the standard PS3 cable. Any other options I'm not thinking about? One more thing I bought a Radio Shack cable, is there much difference in brands.

The Radio Shack cable should work just fine. Monoprice is selling their 6-foot premium optical cable for $3 today if you can take the other one back and care to save some money (assuming the RS cable cost more). Either should work just great, though.

I linked to one of their daily deals (notice how they have the same price for all quantities). I bet that the six-footer costs more before too long.

YES its fine but sonic wave high purity glass is what i use now,no more cheap plastic poly cables,known to haze over a while,and you might consider up grading your receiver too 7.1 hdmi so you can allow the ps3 to decode the dolby true hd and dts master audio lossless codecs using hdmi,your rec{http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/04/21/hd-101}-how-to-use-dolby-truehd-and-dts-hd-with-your-ps3/eiver need not have to decode the ps3 does using multi-ch lpcm! I Did try the ps3 menu set up and its a pain really for multi ch lpcm and then switch back so im going to get my receiver upgraded by nad in future i think!
old threads take along time too fade away!
