Optical cable connections to Onkyo TX-501

Just installed my daughter's Onkyo TX-501 AV receiver. Her DVD player only provided Optical out & no coax so I bought a Monster cable optical link. The connection to the receiver is very tenuous. There is no satisfying "click" when the optical cable is inserted -- it just sort of rests in the connector instead of latching on. Moving the receiver, even gently, frequently dislodges the connection. There's even a 2nd optical input on the receiver so I doubt it's the connector there. The Monsterlink cable looks good. Is this a frequent problem with these optical cables?

Is your problem with the jack on the DVD player?

I use an optical cable between my Onkyo receiver and Toshiba DVD player. I recall a slight click when inserting the cable into the jacks on both the DVD player and receiver. Additionally, the cable fits firmly in both components.

My modestly priced optical cable is from Radio Shack.
