Optical Audio Cable

I'm sure this has been answered somewhere on this forum, but I haven't been able to find it yet.

I got a $10 audio optical cable from video shop to connect my tv to surround system I got. And wondering should I buy a move expensive cable? will I notice a difference?

Being a digital signal using light, I can't see how more expensive cable would help.

I've used plenty of different optical cables and can honestly say I don't hear a difference. What you are paying for with an optical cable IMO is better jacketing to protect the fiber itself, but at some point it isn't buying you anything else. I am using $10 optical cables for a few connections in my system without issue :)

My experience has been the same as jgarcia's. I've been using optical cable from monoprice (which costs a lot less than $10) without a hiccup in my system. I buy the "fancy" grade which runs around $5 for 6 feet but I wouldn't be surprised if the cheaper grade at $2 works also.

That's what I use, and they work fantastically well. My first optical cable was a $40 Monster cable back in 1998 when there weren't that many around. The inexpensive Monoprice cables are, IMO, actually made better. That's what a decade and widespread demand will do for you.

I'm also using some MP optical ones since a long while and so far, so good :)

Mine are all monoprice as well and they work just fine :)
