Oppo dv-981HD vs cheap blu-ray

I currently own the Oppo but was considering upgrading to Blu-ray. I can't afford to buy something that would be much more than I could sell the Oppo for (seems like $120 or so on ebay). Are there any players <$150 (even if used) that would make it worthwhile or should I just hold on to the Oppo?

Thanks for the opinions!

I thought the 981 is an universal player. If you use all or most of its capability such as playing SACD, DVDA, then you should hold on to it. If you only use it as a DVD player and if you really can sell it for 120 then you may consider selling it and buy a XDE500 for 80 and get better PQ. To get real HD PQ for cheap you should keep an eye on the Sony BDP-350 or the BX1. It seems to me Wal Mart and Costco overstock those models and it is a matter of time before they clear them out at rock bottom prices. I bought mine for only CD99.99 new in a sealed box a couple of weeks ago but it was a case pure luck. I would say 149.99 (new) would be a more realistic clearance sales price for those models within the next couple of months.

Very simple suggestion on the good & cheap.

I will keep my Oppo DV-981HD Universal DVD player, and I will get a Samsung BD-P2500/2550 Blu-ray player for only $150, with HQV Reon video processor. You'll be cover on all fronts. :)

The 981 isn't worth a lot right now as it is an older unit ($120 would be good), even though it is a very good one. I'd most likely keep it as well, and pick up a BD player because Blu-ray does look and sound that much better.

I would say a BD-P2550 for $150 (assuming it is not a used one) would be a fantastic deal and must be hard to find. I paid quite a bit more than that only about 6 weeks ago. It does offer excellent picture quality playing standard DVDs. In comparison, my XDE500 still offers slightly better PQ but of course it is just a DVD player.
