Oppo DV-981HD, Denon DVD-2910, or Yamaha DVD-S2500?

I can't decide. It seems as though everyone has varying opinions. I can get these two for about the same price (give or take $30). I'm interested in picture quality on a Sony CRT HDTV over an HDMI connection and also with sound quality over the 5.1 analog out (since I'll use SACD and DVD-A). Does one shine above the others in either of these categories?

The dvd-s2500 is from what i have heard is a Phillips based player and isn't very reliable, that's why i bought the dvd-s2700 the pictrue is very good altough it sometimes has trouble tracking burnt dvd's but the sound trough the analog output is outstanding, hope this helps

The s2500 was at the bottom of my list, so we'll knock that one off. How about the Denon vs Oppo?

i recently got the oppo 981, and I love it so far. picture quality is far better than the lg upconvert i had before (much less noise on blacks than before). as far as sacd and dvd-a go this is my first player that does them , so i have nothing to compare it too

I've seen both the 971H and the 2910, and PQ is about the same, if not a slight edge to the Oppo. The 981 is a newer version of the 971, so I'd say go 981.

If sound quality via analog out is a concern, the 2910 has very good sound.

Thanks for the comments. I have no hesitation buying the Oppo for picture quality nor any in buying the Denon for sound quality. I'm hoping someone can attest to the overall performance of both units?

Audio is a priority for me, that is why I have my 2900 :) IMO, the bass management will likely be better on the 2910. I also had a 2200, the true predecessor to the 2910, and it was very good in both audio and video departments. I spent a few hours listening to music on the 2910 at a friend's place also, and it is quite good.

So if like you said the PQ is similar between the two and the audio is better on the Denon, sounds like the denon is a surer bet. Then again, there is the whole problem of DivX and DVD-r compatibility...ugh i hate this choosing game.
