Oppo DV-980H USB and CD.

I have an Oppo DV-980H player and just this weekend I was messing around with it.

I was showing some pictures on a USB drive to some friends and I thought I would try to put a musical CD into the DVD player and use that as a background music while the pictures are playing. I haven't been able to do that.

Was anybody able to do that successfully? I mean, Audio from CD and Video (Pictures) from the USB connected to Oppo?

You can't playback audio and picture files from separate content sources. So if you want to listen to music while looking at pictures, you will need to have the audio and image files on the same USB device or CD/DVD.

So, if I have a mp3 file and pictures (jpeg) on the same USB, I should be able to play them both at the same time?

If so, do I need to do anything special?

Btw, I can't wait for the new Oppo Blu-Ray player.

That is correct. If you load a MP3 file and then an image, you will get a slide show which has audio soundtrack.

That is correct - it asks you if you want to switch to the USB drive while it is inserted, which is sort of like switching from CD to DVD on your receiver, so it cannot be done.
