I have my oppo 980 hooked up to my pioneer receiver via coax. I have my ps3 hooked up to my receiver via optical. Now, when I play a movie on the ps3 its super nice and loud, movies games everything. when I play movies on my oppo, im finding that I have to crank it up 10 notches higher and it still doesn't have the same effect, especially the sub. There must be something in the oppo settings that needs to be changed. I configured my pioneer so that it knows its being connected via coax. If anyone has any input on this, please let me know. I will try and post what the audio settings I have setup right now tomorrow morning, i didn't change much from the default settings. any help would be great, as its bothering me quite a bit.

I don't have to change anything going from my PS3 to my 980. With my A2, I do have to turn it up a bit. I would suggest checking your digital audio out settings on the 980. What happens if you play the same disc in the 980 and then the PS3 with the same volume level on the receiver? Is it EVERY disc or only certain ones?

yes, same movie, on my ps3 it actually sounds louder and clearer (and better)
could it actually be the coax cable, should I try a toslink?
here are the settings I have on my oppo player

Speaker Setup Page:
Down mix = 5.1 ch
front speaker = small
center speaker = small
surround speaker = small
(want them on small)

Audio Setup Page
EQ Type = None
Sound field = off
digital output = Raw
lpcm rate = 48k
audio tone = 00
hdmi audio = off

Let me know if there is any other info missing that is needed. thanks

I have my 980 hooked up via coax also. I don't think a cable would account for a volume drop, but it might be worth trying the same optical cable as the PS3 to see if it makes a difference (ideally it shouldn't, but it won't hurt to test). It sounds like your settings are correct, however the speaker settings don't apply when using the digital out on the 980; those are only for the analog outputs.

This is interesting because I have my 980 hooked up via HDMI and I have my old Adcom 5 disc changer hooked via digital coax. I thought I'd be using the OPPO as the "premier" player and the Adcom for just the random stuff just have music going on. I have to say that I prefer the Adcom. To me, the OPPO is doing something. I don't know what exactly but it's clearly audible that there's a not-in-my-head difference.
