Oppo 83 dead?

When I went to my trusty BDP 83 yesterday, it would not get out of standby mode. The red light is on (it's a little winky) but when I press the button (or hit the OPEN button) it will not go blue and there is no digital display. I do get a high pitched sound, sort of like that of a disk starting up.

I have tried unplugging it several times, turning it on wit the remote....nothing.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Sounds like it is trying to spin up but does not read so could be the laser, though having no output could mean something else. I'd contact Oppo's excellent customer service.
