OPPO 105D 90% CD use

Just wondering of fellow members opinions here. Would you spend the extra money on the OPPO BD105 if it was going to be used 90% of the time for CD playback? I do have some DVD audio and BD audio that would be used from time to time. I also would use the DAC to stream my music from the computer. My Parasound P5 does not do so well in the DAC department in my opinion. It sounds a bit flat to me..
So I am just wondering if it's better to step up to the OPPO for the sake of it's versatility... However CD playback is MOST IMPORTANT TO ME.
Thoughts???

As you seem to have cd player already I would pick 103 to save money if you are in need of blu-ray player.

This will replace the current CD player as it will be moved to my bedroom system. I don't really need a BD player but I like the idea of having the ability to play all formats in my 2.1 audio system.

Not really, I can play DSD on my 105 whether I stream or using the USB flash drive etc. So unless you plan on using the USB Asynchronous DAC there is no point spending the extra $s.

I also use my 105 for 2.1 channel stereo connected with XLR cables and am very happy with the DAC.

There is always the option of replacing the P5 with an HA-1 and play your music via the USB DAC.
For 2-channel, I use the HA-1 -> Parasound A51.
This is a combo I would whole heartedly recommend to anyone who does not need base management or other features.

The BDP-105D is hooked to HA-1 XLR (bypass) and the center and surrounds are connected to an A31 for HT.

J River / J Remote, and a place to store your music, not only sounds great but puts all you music at your finger-tips.

Agree, but he does not seem to be willing to let go his CDs. He said 90% for CD. He obviously can use any of his disc player to feed the HA-1 via optical or coaxial but that won't work with his SACD. A cheap Sony BDP can do it but then he wouldn't trust the cheap DAC in the cheap Sony player.

I enjoy the sound of my 105 for cd playback. I would say I use the machine about 60% of the time for cd. The rest of the time is spent streaming music from my PC, or Pandora, Netflix movies, and watching blue rays. I originally purchased the 105 to combine all these functions into one machine, and it works very well. One thing I don't like about the Oppo is the fact that there no buttons on the front panel. The touch panel is not as precise or easy to operate as buttons. Also, to get the full use out this machine and full functionality, you need to have it hooked up to a display. For pure sound quality though, it is very very good.

One of the cool things about the BDP-105 is it's flexiblity. Trust me, if you get one you'll find reasons to use the other features.

I'm not sure if you would need the Darbee version, tho esp if you won't be using the video portion.

I own a 105 in addition to a Cary 306 and a ZCD for my wife's system. I find the OPPO 105 to be an excellent value for the money. For serious listening I prefer my Cary but I do like the OPPO's sound for the money. I have found that the feature set on the 105 is great if you incorporate it into a AV system (as intended by OPPO), but is not as convenient in a 2 channel audio system since the interface was designed with a TV in mind.

For the money it is probably one of the better built CD/SACD/DVD players around. Especially at the price point. Would I buy it again, maybe not. However for a $1200 machine it is bullet proof. Will I replace it with the new Cary CD player, probably but it is a $7000 upgrade.

As for reliability, I have never noticed a problem

Cambridge Audio is clearing out the 752BD for $799. Just as good as the Oppo 105 for $500 less.

And I have not purchased anything yet..... I like the Balanced hook ups on the OPPO..
