Im about to go out and possibly buy some new movies and wanted to see what peoples opinions were on the them.

These are the movies I am interested in buying. Im a big movie buff with a nice collection (imo) I am interested in hearing what other people thought about them.

Stealth - Audio = 8, enjoyment = subjective (if you are looking for a brainless action movie and you don't mind a million plot holes then go for it)

The Island - Audio = ?? (I can't remember), enjoyment = 7 (I thought this movie was interesting and visually very entertaining)

Fantastic Four - Audio = 7, enjoyment = subjective (I liked it, but a lot of the regulars in the forum didn't. I think it was because my expectations weren't very high, and nothing really made me dislike it. It entertained me for 2 hours)

Stealth - Didn't see, looked like a bad ripoff of a Dale Brown series

The Island
Audio 8.5, Some of the actions scenes really show off the system
Video 8.5, I'm a fan of Michael Mann, and this film definitely shows his flair.

We just rented The Island tonight. Great movie if you like sci-fi (we do!). It's a fine action flick with much better LFE and audio fx than T2.

Audio...9.0...lots of LFE
Video...8.5...very stunning presentation/lighting/CG blends
Ms Johansson...also very stunning

I will buy this dvd for myself.

My missus is an air-sucker. You know the kind? When something scares them, instead of screaming, they do a loud, quick inhale.

Well, by the time The Island was finished, there was no air left in our 4,500 cu.ft. family room. Plus, I'm kinda tired from helping the hero out of jams. ;-) LOL.

I haven't seen Flight of the phoenix. But I have seen the rest. In my opinion, only The Island and Brothers Grimm are worth seeing.

The only one I've seen is the Brothers Grimm. Personally, I didn't like it. It seemed formulaic and overly cheesy to me. It's the first movie by Terry Gilliam that I was disappointed with. The sound was very good, though.

I've heard mixed things by different friends on Fantastic Four. I've only seen a ten minute scene when they first discover their powers and it was very flat.

No one I know liked Stealth.

The only one I've seen is The Island. Despite being a box office bomb I thought it was really good. Not master-classic-good, but very solid. Probably a 7.5-8 or so.

Ok..so far I have seen Fantastic Four which i watched last night. I actually enjoyed the movie for what it was worth. i am not a comic book fan so I enjoyed it from the hollywood popcorn style movie it was.

The audio mix in the movie was about average with a few low end rumbles..some of the smaller explosions/action scenes could have been mixed better or enhanced..otherwise it was a very entertaining flick.

The Island is next on my list of movies to watch.

This is my opinion, the scores may have been higher or lower from when I saw it last.

Flight of the Phoenix
Audio = 7.5 or 8 Video = 5.5 or 6 (the original movie was better IMO)

Stealth
Audio = 7.5 Video = 6

The Island
Audio = 7.5 or 8 Video = 8.5+ (certainly one of the better movies lately)

Fantastic Four
Audio = 6.5 to 7 Video 7

The Brothers Grimm
Will let you know in a day or 2......

Also I can recommend (these are at least worth 1 watching or more); Kingdom of Heaven, Miami Vice Season 2 Disc 2 (disc 1 sucked), Sahara (was ok), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (was ok), The Five People You Meet in Heaven (is watchable), Herbie Fully Loaded (one of the better Love Bug movies), The Interpreter (Nicole Kidman can actually act), Fever Pitch (only if you like Drew Barrymore), Downfall (however this is in German with English subtitles), King of Queens Season 1 (all discs)(and I will be getting the other seasons as well)


Ones I would pass on(some were ok movies, but IMO they may not be worth being put in a collection, however they are in my collection); Four Brothers, Must Love Dogs, November (however, it was not that bad), Blizzard, The Perfect Man (and I actually like all other Hilary Duff movies), War of the Worlds (excellent sound but movie was mediocre), Christmas With the Kranks (tried watching this twice, because I could not sit through first watching), Crash (was not bad, but its not one I can recommend whole-heartedly), Hostage, White Noise, The Aviator (however, DiCaprio can act in this)

flight of the phoenix - 8/9 audio (dts tough to judge all dts movies sound great) - 7/8 movie (haven't seen it for awhile)

Stealth - 7 audio (good in some points could have been better) - 6 movie (brainless action flick take it for what it is)

The Island - 7 audio (good but not dts) - 8 movie (good action flick much better then stealth if you are only getting one) by the way this is a Micheal Bay (armagedon, the rock, ammityville) film not Micheal Mann (Collateral, Miami Vice, Ali, Heat)

FF4 - 7 - audio (was okay) - 7 movie (better then some other comic hero movies will look forward to sequel)

Brothers Grimm - haven't seen it

Would also recommend Mr. and Mrs. Smith - 9 audio - 8 movie (funny action flick)

Some of the other movies recommended here I have seen and own.

(Own) Mr and Mrs Smith - very entertaining movie. Quite a few good laughs.

Sahara - i liked it (cheesy at times yes) ..probably a movie i would watch a couple times over a long span of time

(Own) Miami Vice - Ahh the 80's..my teenage years.. Loved Miami Vice

(Will Buy) Kingdom of Heaven - a really enjoyed this movie..very Troy meets Gladiator kind of movie.

The Interpreter - I have yet to see that..i have mixed feelings about watching it

Four Brother - Mixed feelings on seeing that as well

(Own) War of the World - loved the movie and sound until about the middle part of the movie..then the movie just falls apart imo..disappointing

(Own) White Noise - I was apparantly one of the few people who actually liked the movie. Not sure about how they are managing White Noise 2 though.
