I'm in the middle of researching speakers for a home theater/music system. I've read the positive reviews of axiom speakers, but have not yet heard them in person. Not an easy thing to do. I'm looking for opinions on these speakers and if anyone has compared them side by side. I'll be using the system for music more than home theater. Will probably power the system with a Denon 3805. Still narrowing that search.

Sorry to say I have no experience with Axiom and very little with the Polks. Check the forum at www.polkaudio.com They should be better able to help you.

If you're in the Seattle area you're more than welcome to audition the m60's. I've had mine for about 3 weeks & am very happy with them. I currently am doing an A/B test with some Sonus Faber Concertino Homes' & can tell you that,so far,I have no intention of returning the Axioms.
I have heard the Polks but don't remember being overly impressed,but I can't tell you what model they were,only that they were floorstanding.

How are the M60's? I'll be using my system mostly for music. I'm using Infinities now and they are way too harsh at high volumes. I know the M60's get great reviews, but the word bright keeps coming up and I don't want that. I'm in Indiana, so an audition wouldn't work...hell of a road trip huh?
Although a trip to Seattle would be nice. I lived there 14 years ago.

The m60's are an excellent speaker. I read the same reviews about them sounding bright & I don't find that to be the case at all. I have a Yamaha 3300 6.1 receiver(130wpc). I've also heard that Yamaha receivers tend to run on the bright side so I was very skeptical about pairing it with the Axioms.I've found the combo to be pleasing. The m60's have nice clarity w/o brightness or sibilance. Can't say the same for the SF's that I'm comparing them with. The SF's(Concertino Homes) have a wonderful clarity & soundstage but tend to sound sibilant on a lot of tracks.If I had any gripes about the m60's it would be that they are bit bass-shy at lower volumes. To counteract that,I turned off the "processor direct" option on the receiver & turned on the "bass extension". Perfect.
IMHO,if you under drive a lot of speakers they will sound bright. I had a Yamaha RX-v620 last year(5 x 100wpc) & everything I hooked to it sounded bright. I replaced it with the 3300 & immediately noticed the difference in sound. Upon close inspection(while at the store) I noticed that the transformer on the 3300 was about 3X's the size of the one in the 620. Denon has always been described to me as a "high current" receiver. They supposedly have a warmer sound than Yamaha so I don't think you would have any issues there,should you go that rout.
As far as the m60's go,I like them.Are they as good as a $3000/pr speakers?No. Although they rival some at twice the price. They will surprise you. The reviews I read weren't BSing. The Bostons,Deftechs,Klipschs,&other storeline speakers of the same cost or more can't touch them.They come well packaged,easily removable from the top of the box w/o destroying it. Try them for a month.If you don't like them,Axiom will pay for the return shipping.
As a side note,these need a little room to breath.I've got them 12 inches from the rear wall & a little more from the side walls. It does make a difference.

One little correction on the Axiom return policy that Zipper stated, you have to pay the return shipping but you do get free shipping from them.

here is there policy copied and pasted from there website;

If Axiom loudspeakers do not surpass your highest expectations, send them back to us within 30 days and we will give you a full refund. No questions asked. Since we've included shipping in our costs, we only ask that you pay the return freight.

Someone on the Ascend forum has posted some comparisons between the M60 and the Ascend 340. He did not characterize the M60's as "bright," however, he did indicate there is some siblance on the top end.

FWIW, he favored the 340's over the Axioms.

I auditioned Polk among many others in the $2000-2500 range, and I ended up purchasing Axiom 60's, 2 qs8 sides and the 150 center. I would say they are terrific speakers. I have been demoing receivers at home. Currently with Yamaha 5790, dvd's sound phenomenal and well recorded cd's are exceptional.Yamaha dsp's are awesome especiallyTHX and DolbyIIx. I don't find the "brightness" an issue although a sub adds the final touch. I assume when I move to the better amps the system will only sound better.
