I have an old Samsung 50in Plasma that's on it's last leg with a white cloud on the screen. I have made a decision to purchase a 50in or bigger tv for the main living room. At first I wanted an LCD because I was worried about burn in from my PS3. Now from another thread you guys said I would be OK with a Plasma. This is good because they look better on movies to me. I was set on this TV.
Panasonic Viera TC-54PS14... I NEED OPINIONS PLEASE.

I also looked at a Samsung LN52B610 that was sitting next to it. This TV looked better in the store. May have been settings....

What is the better TV for movies sports and video games that my kids play everyday. Thanks for the help.

The Panny G10 54 is going for about the same price as the Sammy, IMO that would be he choice.

Panasonic is the tcp series and 1299.00 at BJ's
Samsung is 1500.00 at the same place.
My budget is 1800.00....
I thought the picture on the Samsung was just fantastic. And I still worry a bit over plasma image retention.

Retention and burn-in are 2 different things. Sammys have nice color accuracy, as do the the pannys, but the black level and overall quality go to the pannys. The 54g10 on amazon was selling from 1629.... The way to go;) I game and use both of my plasmas as computer monitors and leave them on news channels with tickers with no issues. Just make sure to crank down the brightness for the first hundred hours and / or run the break in dvds:)

as you might have seen on your other post i already have the tc-p54g10 and it is just awesome for everything!...as i said you just need to wait 200 hours or so before playing games and then you wont regret it!...and for movies i really think the THX mode is very accurate..it is dimmer but its very awesome to me!...if you decide to go plasma and have a 1800$ budget i would go for the G10 series!...for your information go on cnet.com and click televisions at the bottom on the list to the left!..you will have all the reviews and how they rated the tvs..and the G10 series is very highly reccomended!.

In my opinion, the Samsung is not even in the picture. Their reliability and image retention rule them out right away. Currently, there is nothing that competes the the Panasonic plasmas on the market.

The Samsungs do look nice and they are accurate for color with good subjective black levels but their cons outweigh any positives.

Well I just came back from the store and one more look and I decided on the TCP54S1 and I expect delivery this coming Tuesday. I tried to haggle the price of the the 58" @ $2899.99 cdn to about 2499.99 but I would've needed to buy an extended warranty or calibration set up. So I settled on the 54"@ 2199 cdn which was already on sale and I'll pay for ISF calibration and be done with it.

TCP54S1 . . . and I'll pay for ISF calibration and be done with it.
Congrats, Bill. It is extremely likely that you will have the nicest pic out of anyone you personally know, and that's even if you're friends with AV installers.
