Opinions of proposed system

I am considering these products for a proposed 2.1 system in an apt. living room which is 13' by 14'. Please let me know your thoughts on my choices. These choices fit my budget of $1000 and the WAF factor. But let me know of any other suggestions. Music is main priority with some movie watching as well. Also keep in mind WAF factor is extremely important. Speakers must be either real wood veneer or high gloss black.

Actually, I think you'd be pleased with that system. The HK's look great at night, and the NHT's are some of the best looking speakers out there. I also like the Swan line (www.newegg.com) for bookshelves, but trying to stay under $1000 may be an issue.

Thanks for the response Buckeye fan. I also thought that it looks to be a good system. I will also take a look at the swans. Any other suggestions?

Buckeyefan, also forgot to ask about power. Do you think the HK will have a problem driving the NHT's? Of course the room is not that large but the NHT speakers are rated at 6 ohms with 86db sensitivity(due to the acoustic suspension design). I hope the HK will be able to drive them with no problem. I'm really leaning towards them because they look so freakin' sweet! LOL

Certainly will be fine. Your sub will take care of the low frequency with its own amp. Not to worry. Even 50 watts will give you 17 dB spl increase above that 86dB sensitivity; plenty loud.

Speakers with wood veneer

The Onix X-LS speakers come in a real maple veneer or matt black version for only $220/pair. For more power you could go for a couple of the MTM center channels or wait for the floorstander version. The matching 8" sub is only $200 keeping you under budget with a nice HK or other receiver.

Thanks jcpanny. How do they sound? I guess the best way to describe the sound I like is that I like speakers that image well with that "open and airy" treble that almost sounds like there is a center channel playing(i hope that makes sense)

I use mordaunt short 902 (around $250) paired with x-Sub ($200). They sound very nice. You'd love the x-Sub, great sound and the finish is top-notch.

Why are you buying a 7.1 receiver for a (quasi) 2.1 system?

Do you think it is a waste? I was thinking I should go with a multichannel AVR because when I get a larger place I plan on expanding to 5.1 at that time. And even though I will be listening to mostly music right now, I still want to be able to use my speakers when watching a DVD movie or concert and for tv watching. So does this make sense or should I just go with a stereo receiver for now and then buy an AVR when I expand to 5.1?

I think you're fine with the surround sound AVR. I've heard a lot of good things about the Onix speakers and sub. I know NHT's are great with music - my brother in law swears by NHT, and they do look and sound amazing. The HK should have plenty of headroom to drive those speakers coupled with the sub.

Are you putting the speakers on stands, or a shelf?
