Open screw banana's at monoprice

They're 98 cents a pair at Monoprice at the moment. Might want to grab some for future use.

I think what j might be implying is that even the nicest locking plugs are only $3 a piece, and for a 5.1 rig, it's not like it's unaffordable for $30.

I bought a Mono set for my friend, and I'll likely be doing the installing when he finally chooses the audio components. He would have done bare wire otherwise, I'm sure. I hope these stick and don't pull out too easy.

I like the locking plugs I bought on Forest Man's recommendation. Pretty nice.

I bought a set of these from Parts Express and they don't stay tight. The banana tip came loose from the end and the single screw back wouldn't stay clamped onto the wire whether from the side or the back. It just isn't a solid design of the body itself, IMO, but those were the PE ones. You could slap some shrink wrap on them after they are done and that would keep the screw from backing out.

Hopefully these are better than the parts express ones. They must not be too awfully bad if they have gotten so many positive reviews.

Different indeed. The Mono's are two piece. One fatter longer piece that the smaller thinner plug screw into.

I prefer the ones with set screws and a collar to keep them from backing out. They are much better than these at retaining the wire. I've tried a lot of these things. I have dozens of them laying around the house.

PE sells some that have an extra piece inside, a "bullet", that helps retain the wire without cutting into it as you tighten them if you use the side entry - 091-330. Those can still come loose like these though. They also don't go on sale for 98 cents.

It doesn't really make any difference to the sound.

I definitely know what you mean with the collar, I have some that have it as well and it is nice and adds a nice clean look. But 98 cents man! 98 cents!

I have like 6 sets laying around, but I just ordered 10 more for when my brother redoes his basement, they will come in handy.

For that price, I am sure I could use them. Looking at them and the different design (hopefully), I am sure I can make them work for my dad's new setup. I ordered the standard ones from bluejeans instead since I had some cables to order too.
