Here is my music system. The other rig was for movies, this one is for music. The 11x13 room is small, but there is still a nice sound. Looking to revisit my lps and get a TT again.

Very cool Mike!! I love a good ol' vintage 2ch system!! I really need to get a secondary 2ch system in a seperate room to go with my Lenco L75. I like the look you have in there. Bright & rustic, 2 things you dont see together a lot but i like it a lot, good job Mike!!!

Sold my Mac tuner!

Yesterday I sold my McIntosh MR77 FM tuner to meet some financial obligations. Now there is no need to use the preamp w/ only one source, so I ran the analogue variable output of the Sony cdp direct to the tube power amp powering the horn speakers. The sound is absolutely amazing w/ greater clarity, rhythm, and drive, plus the soundstage has grown in height and depth. CDs sound so much more real and immediate.

I will return to adding a preamp when a TT and HD tuner are available at a budget price on down the road. Long story made longer, it has been a while since I've had a system so simple it sounds better. Once with a passive preamp and a Sony 9000ES player to the tube amp, and the other time with the variable outputs of a Benchmark DAC1 from an Oppo DVD player feed into the tube amp. I feel like I'm back home again, and lovin' it!:D:D:D

Love this system, have a dedicated theater, and a mid hi-end 2 channel in my den, but a room dedicated to 2 channel would be the greatest

Yes the Altecs are something special. I have used them in a 2 channel HT at one time too and the dialogue is so clear and the dynamics amazing. I've always thought adding a third one for a center channel in a HT system would be the ultimate.

I looked at your systems and I'd say they are both 'very hi-end, not 'mid hi-end'. I'm extremely impressed with what you have done with equipment and decor.

Ive been really wanting to get into some higher sensitivity vintage speakers, and Altec was pretty much the cream of the crop. Extremely pricey these days, as well they should be, honestly. In that layout, with what you have there, I can only image how crystal clear and detailed it sounds. Only the very finest of recordings could pass muster in your system.

Get a little jealous looking at it!

I sold the Mac tuner a few months back and relocated the system in the room. The top shelf is reserved for a turntable, yet to be determined. Here is a B&W photo of new layout since the change.

Looks good!

Keep us informed on the turntable you decide on!! Maybe a Lenco L75/78 refurb project!? Haha...

I have a set of Altec Valencia studio monitors in our bedroom. My wife uses them with an RC-7 from Klipsch for the center channel. Not realistic to locate a matching single Altec nor would I really have the space. I grew up listening to the Altecs and I guess that is why I own Horn loaded speakers in my primary system.

Here is a photo for your entertainment.

Westcott, the first Altecs I heard were the Heathkit AS-101 which is a rebadged Altec Valencia. A friend had them in the '70 mated w/ Dynaco electronics. His system sure made an impression on me.

Yet more changes. Sold off Altecs as well as the AES tube amp to go a different route. I still have Mac C37 preamp and Sony ES cd player listed for sale on CL. I'm contemplating a Linn, Arcam, or Audio Analogue all-in-one cd/receiver or a Rega system for the bedroom. Their smaller footprint will fit nicely in our small bedroom.
