Im a newbie here, have been looking and reading for a while. This site could drain my wallet fast, very addicting. Anyway i'm having problems using the auto speaker setup and calibration (Audyssey) on my onkyo. It will read all the front and surrond speakers fine but it wont pick up the sub. Ive gone so far as to dangle the mic in front of the sub and it still wont work. Any suggestions? I waited on hold with Onkyo tech support last nite for 30 min and was told to move the sub closer, what a waste of time they were. Its an Infinity powered sub, not sure on model can look later. Thanks in advance.

Can you hear the test tones being generated by the sub? If not, it may be a simple connection or setting adjustment.

I would do what dave suggests first. What is the volume setting on your sub set to? I put mine at half way when I ran my configuration and did not have any problem. I do remember something in the manual about this issue but I can't remember the exact recommendations. I know it mentioned the volume setting and either bypassing the crossover or adjusting it to the maximum.

I can hear the sub for sure, Ive set the volume at max and set the crossover to its highest frequency setting. Maybe the mics bad? or the unit itself.

The highest frequency setting? That may be your issue. Try setting the Xover to a more standard 80Hz. This assumes that you other speakers can output to 80Hz. You may want to back off a bit on the subs volume (gain) setting as well. Max volume is usually a dangerous place to be.;)
