Onkyo txds 797 - keep or sell?
Hello all-

I have been out of the av scene for about 9 years now so I am gonna need some help, on top of the research I have already done.

About 9 years ago I bought an onkyo txds 797 receiver, this was a sweet receiver back in the day b4 hdmi cable where popular and optial audio cable where the big boys on the block.

So my deal is to keep the receiver or sell it for an onkyo 607 or somthing around the $500-700 range.

I am thinking of selling the unit for 350$ not sure if that isow or not.

Any guidance will be great, thanks

Welcome to the forum!

What equipment do you plan to connect to the receiver? I'm asking to help answer the question about if you should upgrade or not.

If I were to sell that Onkyo you have now I would delegate funds received towards the TX-SR805. The TX-SR607 would be a significant decrease in power, while the TX-SR805 would be an increase, and the good news is you can find it for really good prices (sometimes under $500, well worth it IMO).

the speaker system i have right now is the JBL studio L series, i have the LC2, L8800, L820 as rears and the L8400 as a sub.

I also have a ps3 as a bluray player and will be picking up an HD tv.

thanks again

I also vote for selling it and putting the funds towards the TX-SR805, mybe a refurbished one you can get some great deals on them if you just do your research. More power is always good, i would not want to upgrade to a lesser of an amp.;)

Good luck in whatever you decide!

You have been happy with Onkyo for a long time, stay with it.

Yeah, me too, I agree with my fellow members.
If you can get your hands on the Onkyo TX-SR805, get it (hard to find nowadays though). It can be add for between $400 and $600.
If not, there is also the 806 that sells for $599 (last time I look anyway).

And if you're ready to stretch your budget by only an additional $100, you might be able to find the Onkyo TX-SR875 for $799 (refurb).

And if you can borrow $200 from your Mom, you can get the fabulous and excellent Onkyo TX-SR876 for only $899 (last time I check anyway).

Places to look are:
1. Accesssories 4 less
2. 6th Avenue Electronics
3. Shop Onkyo.com
4. Audiogon
5. Videogon
* Or perhaps some e-Bay stores. And use your Google search feature.

Cheers,

Bob
