Onkyo TX-SR875 and ONKYO DS-A3 docking station won't work together

I guess I posted this issue in the wrong place at first(General discussions)because there were like 12 views in less than a half day, but no suggestions. So here it is again. Hope some of you can offer a solution. I am striking out myself. Many thanks as always!
I have had the Onkyo TX-SR875 AVR for about 2 years now, and I recently purchased the Onkyo DS-A3 iPod docking station so I could use my iPod Nano(4th generation) with my system. I had first purchased the DS-A3 a few weeks ago, and I kept getting a "Resolution Error" message on the 875's display window. I called the techs at Onkyo, and after an hour on the phone with them, they concluded that the dock I purchased was defective. It was sent back, and I purchased another one(the same exact model) from a different vendor. The new dock was connected by the book(as always) and this time we got a brief flash of the Nano's menu on my plasma, and then it went away very quickly and the "Resolution Error" message reared it's ugly head again on my 875's display window. But this time, the "Resolution Error" message brought a friend with it named: "Not supported Mode", that appeared on my plasma screen this time too.
The audio will play fine, but in order to know what's playing, or be able to select something different, you must get up and go to the docking station itself so you can see the tiny screen on the iPod Nano itself, and make your selections and commands from there.(with the included docking station remote) This defeats the whole purpose behind my purchase of this docking station of wanting to be able to view and command my iPod through my Display/plasma while being able to view any music videos I may have on my iPod too as the docking station said it would all be able to do with a 4th generation Nano, and I am now stuck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as usual.
Thanks all! Joe B. :)

I'd not buy an official docking station. The Ipod has an 1/8" output you can hookup to your system with a y-stereo cable.

This is my suggestion. It costs less than 5 bucks at walmart or radioshack.

Thanks Lsiberian! I was originally going to do something like that, but the thought(s) of having to drag the iPod to my theater chair with me, while the wire is hooked up to it, and then having to control the AVR's volume seperate from the iPod's volume output, just turned me off. So I saved up a few bucks($100 including shipping) and purchased a docking station that would let me see and do it all by using my plasma and AVR together.
Is their a different docking station or procedure I should be using, in order to be able to view the ipod's menu and videos on my display, while listening to the audio through the speakers that are connected to my AVR?
Thanks again! Joe B.

Yeah I've seen a few other docking stations out there. Was just a little weary to consider buying one of them before out of fear, that the rumors about how using a different name brand docking station than Onkyo for the Onkyo Receivers would result in lower quality audio and video, were actually true.
Can you or any of the other members come up with any suggestions on what exact docking station(s) wouid work properly?(audio through the speaker system connected to my 875 AVR, while the video menu and music videos play through the plasma that's connected to my 875 AVR)
Please remember that I have a 4th generation ipod Nano with video(8 mbs of memory with that new slightly curved surface and smaller type screen)and my receiver is the Onkyo TX-SR875.
Thanks again! Joe B. :)
