Onkyo TX-SR707 changing speaker volumes

We are new to Theater systems so this not sure if this is the right place for help. We could not find much additional info on the Onkyo site. I have a new Sony KDL52Z5100 TV, new Onkyo TX-SR707 receiver, Tannoy HTS100 (5.1) speakers (front, rear, center and woofer), and also two sets of AR3a speakers (currently Front Wide, and Surround). I also have Shaw 6416 PVR, BlueRay, XBox 360, Wii, SlingBox and iMac hooked up to system.

We would like to be able to turn up the volume on the front wide and also at times on the rear and surround speakers. We are watching 5.1 movies.

We have tried all of the options and do not seem to be able to get any sound from the front wide speakers even in the 7.1 modes. The back speakers have very little sound most of the time and when we do get any sound it is barely noticeable.

I did an auto setup using the mic and our 10 speakers all came thru fine on the auto setup. But when we listen to radio, movies, HD TV shows, etc. the only way we can get much sound out of the back front wide, rear and surround speakers is to set the receiver to stereo mode which isn't very useful other than to confirm the speakers all work fine.

I was really looking forward to showing my wife the value of this receiver and so far, she is saying .....!!!! :(

Needs some help. If I can override :confused:or turn up the values for at least the wide front and the rear that would really help.

Thanks!!

All the channels you want to raise are effects channels and are level matched with the rest of the system. You can go into the setup and boost the trim on each channel, but over boosting make cause an unrealistic feeling.

You can adjust speaker levels, pg 82. Depending on the movie, you may not hear much from the surrounds. When watching movies, you want to use PLIIx + Audyssey DSX to engage the rear surrounds and front wides respectively. Unfortunately, I don't know how to accomplish this and the manual isn't much help. I think the issue is that the receiver only has 7 amps, so you can use PLIIx to engage the rear surrounds OR Audyssey DSX to use the front wides, but not both simultaneously.

I'm having a similar challenge with my 805. Try turning off Audyssey. That cured my volume troubles when listening to music but not for TV.
Let me know what happens.

This is the issue.

You can only get 5.1/5.2 + another set (such as rears OR wides), and even if TBCuthbert had an external amp to add, I have read that it still wouldn't matter.

Some higher end receivers can do 9.1. I think there are probably only a couple/few that can output 11.1.

TBCuthbert, you should be able to choose the wides OR the rears, on the fly, using your remote. You can't have both at the same time.
