I am looking for a new A/V receiver, and I am down to the Onkyo TX-SR702 and the Denon AVR 2805 (priced similarly). Any words of wisdom, or suggestions of other receivers (in the same price range) that I should consider (Yamaha, HK?).

I am also looking for a good DVD-A/SACD changer (5 or 6-disc). I want to base this decision on the quality of the audio (music), not the quality of the DVD video. I am currently looking at the Onkyo DV-CP802. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum. You've narrowed it down to two fine units. What are the prices you've found on these two receivers? I'm seeing an msrp of $800-$900. The Onkyo may have a slight edge over the Denon in power (4lbs heavier which could mean a beefier power supply/transformer). As far as sound quality, without a side by side demo and one set of speakers, it's hard to tell. IMO, the Yamaha line contenders would be the 5890/1500. The HK would be the 435. Pioneer has a 1015TX which, believe it or not, competes well, and runs about $300+ less. Don't forget to check it out at your local Best Buy. It's basically a rebadged Pioneer Elite 52TX! Since most of these units have almost unlimited flexibility in tweaking the sound, you really need to experiment with their interfaces to see which you are most comfortable. Some units may sound better with certain speakers. Which are you using/planning on?
