Onkyo TX-SR606 Zone-2 and remote problem

Hi, I have a 5.1 setup in my main room (1st. floor) and run couple of wires down into my basement where I have 2 more speakers (no amplifier). This setup is fine and perfect for me now. However, controlling the sources (say CD player, tuner) is a big pain since there's only 1 remote for the A/V and the remote doesn't work from basement. Every time, I have to run upstairs, etc. to stop/start a CD, etc.

All my sources have alternative analog connections hooked up (multi-channel 5.1 for my blu-ray/SACD/DVD player) and my cable box.
Is there a way to achieve this? Kindly help.

I think the best way to achieve what you are attempting would be to get a universal RF remote and base station. The remote will transmit in RF to the base station which will have IR flashers attached to each component you are controlling.

I use URC (universal remote control) products for my system. Another company to check out is Logitech (Harmony Remotes).

Another alternative is just to run a Cat 5 wire from your gear to the basement and install and IR eye and then use a IR control block to distribute the IR with flashers to the gear. You could then use the OEM remote or any universal IR remote. Companies to check out for this gear is Niles and Xantech.

What is your budget and I can suggest actual part numbers for products.

Thanks for the response, I was planning to spend not more than 100 USD.
