I have an Onkyo TX-SR601 receiver with DVD player, surround system and digital cable. Some cable programs (i.e. HBO) occassionally have movies that register as Dolby Digital on the receiver. Other movies show up with both the Dolby Digital and Pro Logic II icons on the receiver, other channels show up generally with only the Pro Logic II icon. Does anyone know what this means? Am I really getting the Digital Dolby surround when both icons show, or do I possibly have the receiver configured improperly.

Thanks.

Hi Jeff,
You Onkyo like most other recievers and Mother Nature can't be fooled.

Here's an example that will drive you crazy if you have a HighDef setup. Depending on the network, a program might be being broadcast in HD and DD5.1 but the commercials are not, so the face of your reciever will default to the last DSP mode you used for that input. It could be D Prologic or DTS Neo or 5ch stereo and switch back to DD5.1 when the program returns.

Sort of the same thing happens with a dvd. You may choose DTS if it's available on the disc but the face of the reciever will show a form of Dolby until the feature starts.

Anyway bacically the Onkyo is telling you what digital signal or not is being recieved by it or broadcast for that program on that channel which until everything is 5.1 will be all over the map.
