Just recently, I have been unable to get sound from a DVD. After switching from TV mode to DVD mode, I still get the sound coming from the TV program. In the past, the switch over from TV to DVD sound was automatic when I switched from TV to DVD. Ideas, anybody? Thanx

Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like the input assignments might have gotten changed. Did you recently unplug the receiver, lose power for a while, or reset the receiver?

Either way, check to make sure that the input jack that you're using for the DVD player to the receiver is assigned correctly. We can help you through that if you let us know how you have everything connected (DVD player, TV, and receiver).

Thank you for your quick reply, Adam. Yes, we did loose power over the Halloween weekend, and it was thereafter my DVD audio stopped working properly. Previously, all inputs were correct, and nothing has changed since then. The DVD does respond to the various commands (Play, Stop Fast Forward, etc) and the video (seen on the TV) does work OK. When I switch from TV to DVD the TV show (previously playing) audio continues, even after the the movie starts playing on the TV. What do you think? Thanx

Still sounds like an input assignment issue on the Onkyo to me. How are your components connected?

For the Onkyo, if you have video and audio routed through it, and you are using a digital audio connection, then it's entirely possible to have the video of the DVD work fine but be listening to another source (e.g. your TV). Check out page 31 of your owner's manual for more information on that.

That did it, Adam!! Many thanx for your expert advice. I thought for sure something went defective in my receiver, was about to throw in the towel, and buy a new one. You saved me big $$$'s, for which I am grateful.
