Onkyo TX-SR502: Problem with Digital Coaxial port - no sound!

I had the digital coaxial cable going from my DVD player to the DVD coaxial port on the back of the receiver, and I have succesfully enjoyed great performance out of my little TX-SR502 for a year now. All of a sudden, however, the sound stopped coming out of my speakers when watching a DVD.

When I switched the cable to the other 2 coaxial ports (video 1 and video 2), the sound is back.

What could be causing this problem? It's not an issue now, but if I ever upgrade and need the other 2 digital ports, then I don't want to be SOL.

Thanks for your help.

I'm a little confused by the part in bold because there is only ONE digital coax port on the 502 and it would only be related to Video 1 or Video 2 if you assign it to either of those inputs.

If your dvd player video is connected to DVD and the digital coax from the player is connected to coax digital 1, you need to assign coax digital 1 to DVD.

Select DVD, then press the 'digital input' button. Keep pressing it until the display reads 'DVD :COAX'. That assigns the coax digital input to the DVD input selector. Then press and hold the digital input button and make sure it says 'auto'. (it cycles between digital, auto, and --- which means analog).

I would do the same digital input setup for the other inputs and make sure none of them say COAX; otherwise you'll get the audio when one of them is selected but not the video.
