Onkyo TX-NR838 or something else

My question is more, why is the Onkyo so low priced? Amazon and Crutchfield both have it at $700, but the competition is in the $850-$900 range. From what I can tell, it's got all the features that the competition has, but it really feels like I must be missing something in the spec sheet and I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I'm a computer guy by trade and usually when this happens the market evens itself out, but in this case it seems like no one's paying attention.

I'm comparing it to these others:
Yamaha RX-A850
Pioneer SC-82
Marantz SR5010
Denon AVR-X3200

Is there some added feature in the above models that merit the extra $150 price tag? From what I can see it's just the EQ software and DTS:X (which is not something I'll likely be using and is backwards compatible with DTS:HD).

Just for completeness sake, my requirements are 5.1 minimum, DTS:HD and Dolby TrueHD, PreAmp outs, and HDMI 2.0 + HDCP 2.2. Thanks for any information.

Most audio enthusiasts wouldn't touch Onkyo with a 10-foot pole. :)

Bad reputation for unreliability, heat problems, poor customer support, and recently the lack of Audyssey feature (seems to be heading in the wrong direction).

That doesn't mean Onkyo will automatically sound bad. They may sound great to some consumers.
