Onkyo TX-nr515 and Direct TV Remote....Sound

I recently purchased the Onkyo 515 and it is set up with my Direct TV. Heres the two questions I hope to get answered!

1. Can my Direct TV Remote be programmed to control Onkyo 515?

2. After setting up my system (which works great) my Samsung DLP sound will not work except through surround speakers? The settings on the TV seem to do nothing in remedying the situation. Internal mute is off yet when I turn up TV volume I have no sound? I want the option to be able to have TV sound only without having to turn on surround sound through Onkyo receiver. Thoughts?

1. Probably, you're going to need to find the manual for your DirecTV remote

2. If you enable HDMI Through on standby you can get this to work. Take a look at your receivers manual.

NR 515 and direct tv

Have a similar system NR515 Direct TV and LG TV set

Programming the NR 515 to operate the direct TV box was straight forward with the codes provided with the onkyo manual. Works great. Since my tv does not support ARC had to install an optical audio cable between tv and NR 515 to get Sound via TV speakers without having to turn on the NR 515.

ARC is not for transmitting audio from the receiver to the TV in standby.

This receiver does appear to have HDMI pass through in standby mode, so it should work. It will need to be configured in the receiver's setup menu to allow this to happen. However, I found that this receiver seems to have the same issue my pre/pro does, depending on the source device - the TV may not be able to internally decode all audio streams so you may be missing some or all audio that is being passed directly from the source.
