I have an onkyo tx-ds939 and I'm wanting to hook up two subwoofer. So my question is? Can I hook up two subwoofer to that receiver even though it's a 5 and 1 reciever

That receiver has two subwoofer pre-outs it looks like.

Any receiver on the market, with or without dual subwoofer outputs can feed two subs just fine. You don't ever really have a 5.2 setup or a 5.5 setup. There's still only one subwoofer channel that is being fed to the multiple subwoofers.

Very dated design, but looks like a real work horse piece.

I've got a 4 yr old Onkyo 876, but that 959 looks like serious business! Though I can't quite see where you'd connect to 2 subwoofer out jacks. One could use a y cable if nothing else.
