Looking for a simple setup to play stickly music (from ipod, turntables, computer) and was thinking about the 8555, the 2030's and a sub ( I need to feel a little thump). This will go into a 228 sq foot room. I have a couple of questions.........

1)Will this receiver supply enough power? If not please give some suggestions
2) Do you think this will be a decent sound for this room?
3) What sub do you suggest with this?

Yes, 100w per channel is what the b2030p is rated for

I assume this is a budget system? Budgets are required for reasonable recommendations. This Dayton should be a pretty good solution for music.

This should be question 3, no? The 2030s are superb near field monitors and the Dayton should fill in the low end nicely.

Don't expect to blast the house down though with the b2030p's. They play loud but they aren't amazingly sensitive.

Thanks nugu. Do you have any recommendations of something that may sound better for around the same budget for strictly audio.

The Audioholics store has Infinity Primus P162's for $85 per speaker with free shipping. That is a very good speaker also. The Primus p152 is on sale at $75 each, that would be good too. There is also the Behringer 2031p, your onkyo could drive that, and it has more powerful bass then the 2030p. I think these are the best deals in inexpensive speakers, its hard to do better than them for the money.

For a sub that could hang with a system like that, look at the Emotiva Ultra Sub 10, which is on sale right now for less than 300 shipped. There is also the Hsu Research STF1 which is a tad over 300 shipped. Both of those look like they have pretty high quality bass, especially for the price.

The TX-8555 does have a subwoofer output. Virtually any subwoofer you look at will have a built in crossover to blend with your main speakers.

I think the H/K looks much nicer, although I don't like the volume knob. It also has built in high quality DACs with 2 digital inputs, which is nice. The H/K seems to have more features overall.

Both receivers are up to the task.

I know the Dayton was recommended, however since the onkyo has sub out do I still need a powered sub? Also, do you think it matters what type of wire i use to connect the speakers and the receiver

The subwoofer output is line level, so the subwoofer will need to be powered.

Anything from lamp cord to premium xyz brand will work fine. I typically recommend getting 12 gauge or 14 gauge wire. Spending more money on cable won't improve your sound. If aesthetics are that important for the application check out Blue Jeans Cable.
